Final Project Commentary

This FP was challenging for me, as I had no prior experience before this module. >< I forgot to take screenshots of my journey in making the brand style guide during this process so I will just describe what I did sorry! For the icons, I used the pen tool and curvature too. I found images online and lowered the transparency then traced over. Then , I chose on a font that matched my theme and the vibes that I was going for. I knew very clearly that I wanted my resume to be shades of blue and with yellow to highlight the important headers.  I kept the background of my brand style guide white as I wanted to keep to a simplistic and easy-to-read concept and not use more colors which might make it confusing and messy for readers.

For my logo, it took me really long to decide on the bell and I was unsure of how to keep my name or initial inside a logo. However, I suddenly decided to swap out upper part of the bell interior to my Initials which I thought fit together nicely. After deciding on the logo, the theme of my brand (the look I am going to present myself as) and the color palette, the process got much easier.

One challenge that I faced was trying to balance between looking "friendly, approachable and youthful" and being "professional". As much as Doraemon is a cartoon, I did not want to lose the sense of professionalism and for my resume to look too "kiddy". Thus, I kept that in mind the entire time, and got approval during critique that it was acceptable and the fonts were fitting.

Initially, the strokes for education and skills were too thick which affected readability.

There was no icon for education as well, and I added in one to standardize one icon for every header later on.

I also realized that the icons for experience and language headers had white strokes with no fill which paled against the yellow headers, making it hard for readers to see the icons. Thus, I added black 0.5 thickness strokes and filled it with white instead. I think it looks better now.

Similarly, for the skills icon, just 1.0 thickness black strokes seemed to be too thick and bold, creating a very harsh look that does not fit in with the rest of the resume.

I have to admit, for the excel icon and the language icon, the strokes are too clustered together making it seem very bolded and black, making it unsightly and not so clean. However, it is already set at the lowest stroke thickness (0.25) and I do not know how to make it thinner anymore...…

For language, initially I had the Chinese icon to the most left but then someone kindly pointed it out that English should be placed first as I was most proficient in it. Thus,  I changed to English icon being the first to the left.

Next, the readability of my resume was bad initially. Miss Curie commented that " perhaps reducing the size and boldness of some of the texts could help increase readability and also give the resume a cleaner, less cluttered look". Thus, I

After some prompt from my friends, I added in the explanation on why  I incorporated a door to place on my logo for my business card, clarifying the association between the door and my brand.

Haha to be honest, I probably exported it as pdf like 20 times because I had to keep touching up.

At first , the right column of my resume had headers which was the same shade of blue from the left column but I decided to fill all the headers boxes yellow as an accent color for my resume. I think this was a better choice as it brightens up the resume and as mentioned in my brand style guide, yellow is a color that has a significance to me.

I only had a landscape name card initially but I added in another portrait name card so that my landscape name card could be cleaner, with the front just being the bell. My portrait name card would then be the door, which was originally meant to be placed in the landscape name card.

I played around with many different version for the logo guidelines.

For the colour scheme, this is what I did to find out the exact shade that I am using.

Deciding on the typography and keeping it simple with only 2 fonts.

My original resume which had many errors and room for improvement.

My revised resume that I tried my best to improve on, though I am sure that there can be further improvements.

My original name card, which I should not have squeezed the portrait door into
the landscape namecard.

My revised name card (landscape)

My revised name card (portrait)
